Afro-Brazilian and Samba Dance and Drumming Teachers

Susie aka SambaSooz: has been teaching and performing for over 10 years and is the disciple of the late great Mestre Jose Prates (who brought samba and salsa to Australia and trained all the first teachers and performers). SambaSooz has been bringing authentic modern Afro-Brazilian and samba to Australia through her classes, choreographies and performances. As the Director of Umbela Brasil, she has been ensuring that dancers who are willing to do the work, will find that deep connective base back to technique and spirit.

Kaylene Pomana Jones: Originally from Aotearoa, Kaylene has trained in numerous dance forms including traditional Polynesian, jazz funk hip hop and street Latin. Director of Array Dance and considered one of the best teachers and performers in Australia, she is committed to showing traditional dances in their true forms and breaking down movement and technique so that absolutely anyone can access the benefits of dance.

King Parrot Samba Band – Javier Rodriguez: The King Parrot Samba Band was formed in 2008 as a way of teaching the Blue Mountains community how to express themselves through samba and Afro-Brazilian dance forms. Javier has a way of eliciting music from each of us, bringing it out of us… and he delights the audience with the catchy rhythms of his large percussion group.

Clo Mudrik: This dancer, performer, choreographer and teacher is adept at capoeira, circus, performance, laban and modern and traditional Afro-Brazilian dance. She has performed around the world with troupes such as New Dance, Stalker Theatre, and Marragecus. She is a sparkling all-rouder and you will love the physicality and connection to tradition in her classes.

Emilia: Emilia grew up dancing and has studied and performed many different styles throughout her career. Having trained in California and Brazil, she now specializes in Afro-Brazilian dance as well as playing African base drums. Dance is her number one passion and she is happy to share it with the world. Emilia brings grace and presence to each class and an unsurpassed dedication.

Rayson: Rayson is a Director and Choreographer or La Fiesta Entertainment. He trained and performed with Bale Folclorico de Brazil in Salvador for most of his life before emigrating to Australia. He has also performed worldwide as lead dancer capoerista in the internationally acclaimed show Warriors of Brazil. His classes are super energetic and very physical. You will sweat!

Timbalada: Hailing from Bahia, Tim is the musical director of Rhythm Brazil. His performance credits include most major festivals and venues as well as performing with Carlinhos Brown, Axe BaBa Dance Company, opening for the renowned Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes, Brazilian percussion band Olodum, and the world famous Paul Simon.
