Umbela Brasil is a global, not-for-profit, ethical collaboration between professional and para-professional artists dedicated to professional development of Brazilian and Afro Brazilian arts in Australia – specifically Afro Brazilian and Samba Dance and Drumming.

We run cultural exchanges – seeking out artists of high calibre, in modern and traditional Afro Brazilian and Samba dance and drumming, for cultural exchange in Australia.

We have weekly classes – in Afro Brazilian and Samba dance and drumming as well as regular workshops. Adult dance classes starting from beginner level now being taught on the Central Coast (Erina).

We have a performance company – and would be delighted to perform at your next cultural event or festival.

Check out what we have to offer.

‘Umbela’ is Latin for the shape of a tree, river or feather branching outward; Umbela Brasil reaches out to the community but still connects to our roots, our core, art and music. Our motto – A jó lati ṣàn – is in Yoruba, a language of the slaves who were brought to Brasil, and means ‘We dance to flow’. At Umbela Brasil, we dance to to let go, to connect, to flow with our bodies and with each other to the music.

We are Umbela Brasil. A jó lati ṣàn – We dance to flow.
